Built Green Certified

HomeFront is a dealer for Triple M Housing. All Triple M modular and sectional homes are Built Green Certified. Built Green is a program that encourages environmentally responsible building practices in Alberta and British Columbia. Reducing the impact of construction on the environment is beneficial to home manufactures, homeowners and the environment. Choosing a home that is Built Green is one way we can lessen our global footprint and leave a happier, healthier planet for future generations.

In order for a manufacturer to be approved Built Green, its products and practices are tested and verified in seven categories and must receive a minimum score in each category in order to be certified. Built Green technicians perform random quality checks to verify standards and maintain program credibility.

There are four Built Green Certifications; Bronze, Silver, Gold, and as of January 2008, Platinum. Triple M Housing received a Gold Standard Certification.

Below is a summary of the checklist used to determine Built Green certification.

  • Operational Systems: Points are awarded for construction practices and products that work towards lowering energy consumption.
  • Building Materials: Points are awarded for the use of alternative resources and materials such as recycled products or using lumber that comes from managed forests.
  • Exterior and Interior Finishes: Points are awarded for the use of sustainable products, long-lasting products, organic or recycled products.
  • Indoor Air Quality: Points are awarded for the use of low VOC products and all-natural products. Air cleaning and ventilation systems are also considered.

  • Water Conservation: Points are awarded for efforts taken to reduce the amount of water used in individual homes or multiplexes.
  • Business Practices: Points are awarded for environmentally responsible conduct within manufacturers' business and/or offices. Examples include use of hybrid cars, environmental policies in place, use of renewable energy (solar or wind) or offsetting the office's carbon footprint.

What are the benefits of Built Green homes?

Longevity and Maintenance: Built Green homes are often built with products that are more durable those used for conventional homes. This reduces maintenance costs and increases the longevity of the home.

Water Usage: Using water efficient appliances such as low-flow faucets, water-saving toilets, and water-efficient washing machines and dishwashers cuts down drastically on the amount of water consumed in a home.

Energy Efficiency: Built Green homes use energy-efficient appliances, which help decrease the amount of energy a home consumes each month and in turn decreases energy bills.

Air Quality: Well-sealed ducts systems, combustion appliances and controlled fresh air can reduce the amount of indoor air pollution.
