Affordable Modular and Sectional Homes: Value for Your Money

Homes are getting more expensive. That has always been the case. Every few decades each generation wonders how it will afford to buy a home. Homes that were $100,000 not so long ago are now closer to one million dollars, yet our income does not reflect the same rate of inflation. We work, we save, maybe enough to get a 5% down payment and then scramble each month to get the mortgage paid and stay on top of the seemingly endless upkeep, maintenance, and yard work.

More and more potential homeowners are starting to do a little more research before buying or building a home. For those looking for Affordable Homes, modular and sectionals are proving to be an attractive and viable alternative. When most of us hear “Modular Home”, we think of the 1970’s prefabricated, boxy homes in mobile trailer parks. Over the years, the Modular Home has undergone a massive make-over and the latest models of Modular Homes and Sectional Homes look and feel exactly like a conventional, site-built home.

Modular and Sectional homes are ideal for couples and families and because you get to choose the floor plan, colour scheme and additional details, the house will be as unique as your are. Modular Homes are a high-quality, affordable home option for people looking to live outside the box!

Retirement Just Got Easier

Considering building on the property you’ve been sitting on for the last few years, waiting until retirement when you’d have more time. Well, now you’ve got the time and you are ready to build. Where to start?

The potential hassles of building a home are endless. First, you need to find finding the right general contractor. Then there are the issues of labour shortage and ill-experienced tradespeople, long waits and work held up due to delays in materials arriving, issues with subcontractors, raising construction costs-the list goes on and on.

Unless you have found a contractor you know and trust you may find yourself on site everyday overseeing the general process, making sure things are moving smoothly and on schedule. Who wants all the hassle? Isn’t retirement about not working? You’ve spent your whole life working, now it’s time to enjoy your time off. There’s another option.

The new generation of Sectional homes has shed the reputation of its predecessor as being generic, boxy and dull. In the last five years, there has been a surge of interest in the modern and stylish new Sectionals and Modulars for a number of reasons. Designers and architects interested in designing and creating homes that are more affordable and also energy-efficient are finding that Sectionals can be much more environmentally sound due to the nature of being built indoors. Factory-built homes have waste and recycling facilities in place to effectively deal with excess materials and because homes are manufactured on a large scale, customer’s benefit from bulk pricing. Building a home can take anywhere from four months to a few years, in contrast, Sectional homes take only a few months. Sectional homes are built in 2-4 weeks and arrive fully intact.

The home arrives in sections, and because it can be assembled in various floor plans to meet your aesthetic preferences and lifestyle needs, each home is unique. Customize your home right down to the last details including a wide variety of optional features such as fireplaces, jetted tubs, architectural detailing, and colour swatches.

Retirement just got easier. Let HomeFront take care of your new home. In only a few months, you can have your home delivered to you, hassle free… a truly “turn-key” solution.

Bob Vila talks about Modular Homes

In a recent article on Bob Vila’s site he talks about the benefits of Modular Homes. Here are a few points he made.

Modular Homes Make Sense
Factory-built homes offer all the amenities of traditionally built homes, often at reduced cost and increased quality.

  • Modular homes are like the hybrid car of the house-building industry. Theysave money, they make sense, but they haven’t caught on yet. General misconceptions keep many from considering going modular, and the confusion between modular homes and manufactured (mobile) homes has led to regulations and restrictions being placed by towns that have new home builders scared into going the traditional route. But the word is getting out. It turns out modular homes are in many ways superior to stick-built homes, and, once assembled, cannot be distinguished from their traditionally built counterpart.
  • Many people incorrectly equate modular homes with manufactured or mobile homes. To these people a modular home is a one-size-fits-all boxy construct made of low-end materials and generic products.
  • Simply put, a modular home is one that is built in a factory, usually in assembly-line fashion, and then transported to a site in large units. These units are then lifted from the transport by crane and rested on a pre-built foundation and fastened together. The entire process takes a fraction of the time it takes to build a house on-site, and the finished product can cost a good deal less.
